Another Me

Exerpt from my upcoming book....

ANOTHER ME...

I feel lost. I don’t even know who I am anymore. What the hell am I doing here?

I remember thinking this and I often hear very similar stories from my clients and friends. So many people feel like they don’t know who they are anymore, like they have lost themselves.

I remember when I first realised I had ‘lost myself’ and started looking for that lost version of ‘me’, only to realise quite some time later, that even if I DID find that lost version of me, she probably would have changed by now so how would I even recognise her? She would have grown, aged, changed...

That’s when I pressed the reset button.

So just who am I when I’m alone? I asked myself this question. I listened… and I listened some more…

An answer would have been very welcome here but no… nothing… there was nothing. Not a damn thing. Am I ‘nothing’? Is that it?

Why don’t I get an answer to this question? It seems so simple. I’m sure everyone else knows the answer. I should know the answer. I should know who I am.

Let me ask myself again; ‘who am I without my family, without my work, without my friends?’

Well… then I’m just ‘me’, right? Yes, that's right, but who IS me? And moreover, if I can ask myself that question, who is the ‘I’ who is asking ‘myself’ that question? Whaaaatttt? There are two of me??? BOOM!! My mind was blown.

It was far more than I had bargained for. Just knowing who ONE of me was, would have been great, thanks. But no...

So, there I was, now with TWO of me and still no closer to knowing who I was (or should I say, who we were?) with even more questions, and even less knowing and still feeling as lost as ever...

So it seemed like I had gained another 'me' in the process of finding myself. And this realisation, ultimately became the answer I was looking for….
